Local Attractions

The Western Lake District has famous lakes, awesome mountains and dramatic coastline. Here you will find Wastwater, the deepest lake in the UK and England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Much of the Western Lake District lies within the Lake District National Park and includes many National Nature Reserves. The Solway coast has been designated as an Area of National Beauty since 1964. The Solway Firth has wide uncrowded beaches and views across to the Scottish hills

On the coast at Maryport is the Lake District Coast Aquarium and Maritime Museum and Senhouse Museum. A short distance inland is the old market town of Cockermouth famous as the birth place of William and Dorothy Wordsworth and location of a market since 1221.
